Instruction to install wget into macos without SSL GNUTLS error

In this thread, we will show 3 different methods to install wget into MacOS without SSL GNUTLS error. Our tutorial works on all MacOS version: Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, Mavericks, El capitan, Yosemite,…

Method 1: Direct installation
This method is simple. We just download and run the package from Rudix

Method 2: Install wget through HomeBrew
If you already installed HomeBrew, it’s now quick and easy to install wget by the following command line through Terminal.

brew install wget

Method 3: Compile from Source

xcode-select --install

  • Use curl to get wget.
Use the following in order to install wget

cd ~/Downloads

curl -O

tar -zxvf wget-1.19.5.tar.gz

cd wget-1.19.5/

Config and install to avoid SSL GNUTLS error

You then may face a ssl error:

configure: error: --with-ssl was given, but GNUTLS is not available.

Correctly, wget needs to have some type of SSL support GNUTLS which are not available on your OS X system – if so use OpenSSL in the configure as an alternative use so re-run the configure with an SSL flag:

./configure --with-ssl=openssl

sudo make install

All above get wget installed into: /usr/local/bin/wget
